This rubber blanking disc, also known as a blind filter or blind basket, is a specialized accessory used in espresso machines for backflushing. Backflushing is a maintenance procedure that involves cleaning the brew group and the internal parts of the machine.

To use a blanking disc, you typically remove the regular filter basket from the portafilter and replace it with the blanking disc. This disc is solid with no perforations, which means no water can flow through it. When you run a backflush cycle with the blanking disc in place, the pressure builds up inside the group head, flushing out any coffee residues, oils, and other impurities that may have accumulated.
